When I first started my career, I believed that practicing architecture would allow my creative expression an outlet. I set up shop and as a private practicioner, and designed quite a few additions, remodeling projects, and one single family house.
Collaborating with owners and builders was the good part but the practical limitations of what really could fit into the owner's budget was the bad part.

I now take design projects only as favors to friends and family -
